Overview This position covers multiple locations within an area.

Job Summary Learn all duties required of a Meat Department Manager. Assist the Meat Department Manager in directing and controlling the operation of the Meat Department, supervising personnel, planning and ordering merchandise, ensuring customer service and product quality, and managing costs to meet sales goals.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the Meat Department Manager in meeting projected sales and gross margin objectives; create promotional displays; oversee cost and quality control; manage orders and inventory; and maintain accurate department records.

Maintain a friendly, courteous customer service atmosphere.

Ensure product quantity, quality, and freshness; order and inventory receive; build displays; inspect stocks; maintain proper temperature; and handle labeling, pricing, and inventory paperwork.

Learn and assist in supervising, coaching, training, and hiring staff; monitor performance; and recommend personnel actions.

Assist in scheduling personnel to meet coverage needs.

Perform customer relation duties and engage in suggestive selling.

Ensure proper merchandising, display signage, and packaging.

Maintain cleanliness and eye‑appeal of work area, equipment, and displays.

Ensure a safe, secure work environment and compliance with security policies.

Perform receiving duties, verify orders, report shortages, and process invoices.

Operate forklifts and other equipment to manage freight.

Perform all duties with honesty and integrity.

Complete the Manager in Training classroom and on‑job training program.

Requirements Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience

Effective communication with co‑workers and customers.

Prior experience in a meat department or equivalent.

Leadership skills in communication, people management, customer relations, and analysis.

Basic math and weight calculation.

Computer and Windows software proficiency.

Ability To

Perform all clerk duties independently.

Use supervisory skills: interview, schedule, hire, train, discipline.

Communicate effectively across oral, written, electronic, and interpersonal channels.

Lift and maneuver up to 80 lbs.; work in refrigerated and moisture‑exposed environments.

Operate equipment safely and with manual dexterity.

Work around cold conditions and machinery.

Understand all department processes and safety protocols.

Calculate inventory and analyze product variability.

Stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive arm movements for extended periods.

Push and pull loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.

Use cleaning chemicals according to guidelines.

Handle food products in compliance with state and county laws.

Perform primary duties accurately and efficiently.

Additional Requirements

Current Food Handlers Certification per state and county laws.

Machines and Equipment Operated

Computer terminal and office machines; order/scan gun; departmental equipment such as slicers, grinders, vacuum sealers, scales, band saws, meatslicers, and pallet jacks.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Credentials

Formal supervision experience with performance management.

Experience in product management, inventory, display, and maintenance.
