Position Overview The Controller will assist the Director of Finance with the preparation and monitoring of the multi‑entity financial functions of the agency, ensuring fiscal responsibility and the delivery of timely and accurate financial information. The role involves moderate to complex accounting and analysis in a managed care environment and the management of staff within the department.

Essential Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Finance in planning, organizing, and implementing monitoring systems for the financial functions of the agency, including multi‑entity general ledgers, accounts payable, payroll, journal entries, cash flow projections, budgets, and analytical projects.

Assume financial leadership with EMPACT‑SPC, handling day‑to‑day communications with management and managing accounting functions, including financial statement preparation, cash flow forecasting, budgets, and overseeing monthly billing functions.

Prepare, review, and approve journal entries as assigned for EMPACT‑SPC.

Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and narrative for EMPACT‑SPC; analyze actual budget variances and report findings to the Director of Finance and/or senior management.

Analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy, and prepare journal entries as necessary to reclassify information to correct accounts/entities.

Assist Accountants and other finance staff in understanding, streamlining, and documenting their functions.

Prepare schedules for the annual audit and tax returns for EMPACT‑SPC; coordinate audit requests, assist auditors and staff as needed.

Lead the annual budget preparation of the entities, including forecasting revenues and expenses, developing and maintaining complex allocation models, collecting operating and department expense budgets, preparing capital budgets, cash flow projections, and executive summaries.

Reconcile and analyze encounter value and provider monitoring reports for agencies contracted with EMPACT‑SPC; perform subsequent analysis for executive management decision making.

Monitor cash flow to ensure adequate funds for required expenditures.

Perform other duties as assigned; provide ad‑hoc analytical support for the corporation.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance or CPA license preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

7+ years of accounting/financial analysis experience required.

Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience in an Accounting or Finance department, preferably in a health‑related industry.

Required Skills & Abilities

Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and general ledger software.

Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of accounting: general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial analysis.

Ability to prepare the annual budget and monitor cash flow of a major organization.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Detail oriented, strong organization skills.

Strong internal and external customer service skills; maintain a professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal and external team members, stakeholders, and community and business partners.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Typical work environment: indoor office.

Employee must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.

Job requires regular standing, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and use of eye, hands, and fingers to operate computer, telephone, and keyboard.
