DCNR Ranger Trainee (Seasonal) - Neshaminy State Park Join the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Seasonal DCNR Ranger Trainee at Neshaminy State Park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a DCNR Ranger Trainee, you will participate in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program. You will acquire skills in public contact, customer service, outdoor recreation, conservation principles, environmental education, public safety, policy implementation, and law enforcement. Specific duties include:

Assisting with patrols and responding to safety issues, visitor assistance, emergencies, and violations of park law.

Completing daily and monthly logs on campgrounds, facilities, equipment, visitor safety, incidents, citations, arrests, accidents, and attendance.

Preparing launching, mooring, and camping permits by entering data into the Reservation and Revenue System.

Collecting fees and preparing transmittals by checking daily receipts for accuracy and making bank deposits.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Seasonal, full‑time 40 hrs/week with no healthcare benefits. Season runs approximately March 2026 – November 2026; unpaid leave thereafter. Replaced in March 2027.

Workdays and shifts vary, including holidays, weekends, and evenings. A 30‑minute lunch is provided.

Telework is not available.

Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Completion of 15 college credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, park management, recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or a closely related field; or

Six months of experience providing visitor services in a public park, forest, recreation area, or privately owned outdoor education center; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age 21 years at time of employment.

Possession of an active motor‑vehicle license.

Completion of a structured law‑enforcement training program to obtain arrest authority.

Valid certification in standard first aid and CPR (adult, child, infant) approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent during the trainee period.

Pass psychological testing (MMPI). Failure is a basis for removal.

Pass Pennsylvania State Police and FBI criminal background checks. Convictions with possible prison term over one year is a basis for removal.

Must be able to perform essential job functions.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Pass a background investigation.

This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.

Conditional offer of employment requires satisfactory criminal history reports including: PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
