AN INVITATION TO SERVE: FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC This isn't just another Firefighter Paramedic position. This is a call for professionals who want to build a department from the ground up. The Town of Jupiter is starting from a "blank slate," and our founding members will be the architects of our reputation for excellence. PURPOSE OF THIS CLASSIFICATION This position is responsible for fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, public education, and advanced life support emergency medical services; drive and operate emergency vehicles; use appropriate safety equipment under extremely hazardous conditions of high heat, toxic gases, explosive chemicals, radioactive materials, and infectious diseases; perform station and vehicle maintenance; conduct equipment and supply inventories; execute forms and reports, and enter computer data; and, maintain physical condition and skills necessary to sustain required certifications in fire suppression, fire prevention, and advanced life support techniques. This position is required to work mandatory overtime and may be called back to duty in the event of a major emergency. This role is expected to complete all required continuing education in order to keep all certifications and licensures active and in good standing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Respond to fire alarms, initiate hose evolutions, secure water sources, and operate hose lines or master stream devices.

Locate and rescue victims in various emergency scenarios, including burning buildings, waterways, and vehicular accidents.

Administer emergency care, evaluate patient status, formulate diagnoses, and implement treatment plans consistent with and within the scope practice for a Paramedic.

Complete medical equipment check‑outs, inventories, and replenishments.

Administer patient care at the Paramedic skill level according to Florida State Statutes and department protocols.

Oversee EMT and First Responder activities and ensure proper documentation and quality assurance.

Perform forcible entry, ventilation, and searches for hidden fires; conduct salvage and overhaul to protect property from further damage; participate in training sessions and post‑emergency critiques.

Respond to hazardous material incidents and mitigate hazardous situations.

Inspect premises for fire hazards and code violations, conduct fire prevention patrols, and test fire safety systems.

Maintain fire‑rescue equipment, apparatus, and facilities, performing minor repairs and cleaning.

Conduct public education programs on safety, medical, and fire prevention topics.

Participate in on‑the‑scene fighting of fires, ensuring adherence to department protocols and safety standards during active fire operations.

Maintain emergency medical vehicles and all supplies, medications and equipment at a constant level of readiness.

Actively engage in fire prevention activities, including fire hazard identification, public education, and risk reduction strategies.

Provide firefighter training, ensuring all personnel receive up‑to‑date instruction in firefighting techniques, safety practices, and department protocols.

Maintain certification and comply with requirements outlined in s. 633.408.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Serves as a member of various Town of Jupiter employee committees, as assigned. Represents the Town of Jupiter at meetings, when requested. Performs other related duties as required. Represents both the Town of Jupiter and the Jupiter Fire and Rescue Department with integrity and demonstrates through actions a dedication to the Core Values of both.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent.

State of Florida Firefighter II certification in accordance with Florida Statute, Chapter 633, or currently enrolled. Must be state certified before June 1, 2026.

State of Florida Paramedic certification meeting all training requirements set forth by Florida Administrative Code 64J‑1.020, or currently enrolled. Must be state certified before June 1, 2026.

Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and American Heart Association CPR certifications or currently enrolled. Must be certified before June 1, 2026.

Valid Florida driver’s license required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized, and the ability to obtain the State of Florida license within thirty (30) days from the date of employment is required.

Driver License in Good Standing must meet following standards: No more than 5 points accumulated on a license within the preceding 36 months.

No suspensions or revocations in the 36 months preceding employment (including administrative suspensions or failure to pay fines).

No reckless driving convictions within 36 months preceding employment.

No DUI / DWI conviction in the 5 years preceding employment.

Must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, perjury or giving a false statement.

Must not have a history of termination or involuntary firing from an employer for dishonesty, untruthfulness or theft.

Personal and professional background free of conduct that would compromise public trust.

Must not be on the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Exclusion List.

Must meet all standards to successfully pass the comprehensive background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated prior experience indicating a service to others commitment, such as prior military service, local government, ambulance service, or other first responder capacities; volunteer experience like disaster relief, community services, fire explorer/cadet program, or humanitarian aid.

Training and experience in other categories of professional development desired, including fire investigation, risk reduction, hazardous materials, technical rescue, marine/water rescue, teaching or instructing, leadership development, and supervisory best practices.

A 3.0 (B) or higher grade in both the Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic and Firefighter Standards Firefighter 2 course.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must have correct color vision and depth perception as noted in NFPA 1582. Must be able to lift and carry articles weighing up to 75 lbs and push articles weighing up to 150 lbs. Must be able to wear hard hat/helmet, safety glasses, goggles, safety harness, respirator, safety shoes/boots, coveralls, gloves, bunker gear, and face shield. Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions; exposure to electricity, heights up to 100 ft., noise, moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, vibration, radiation, dust, vapors, fumes, toxic metals, sensitizers, poisons, animals/insects, mist, gases, smoke, irritants, asphyxiants, and blood‑borne pathogens.
