Responsibilities
Provide educational counseling and advising, including administering assessment instruments and interpreting results to support prospective and through‑year students.
Inform students about college procedures, catalog use, regulations, fees, resources, special programs, and placement test scores.
Assist entering students in completing first‑semester individual educational plans and help continuing students set and achieve academic goals.
Conduct individual career counseling and provide career information as needed.
Assist students in locating appropriate college and community resources to resolve problems and crises that affect their success.
Serve probationary and disqualified students, identifying student learning problems in partnership with the instructional program.
Advise students in special programs (financial aid, international, veterans, disability, athletes, retention programs).
Assist with planning and implementation of the college Matriculation Plan.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling (or related field) from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience with ethnic minorities or persons disadvantaged by language, social, or economic factors, including at least 9 semester units of coursework or 6 units of counseling practicum relating to these populations, and/or two years of occupational experience working with such populations.
Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity, and understanding of diverse student populations.
Desired Qualifications
California Community College Counselor Credential (valid for life).
Experience in a community college EOPS program or similar environment.
Required Prior Employment Documentation
Official college transcripts (or foreign‑degree evaluation).
Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam (renewed every 4 years).
Live Scan fingerprint clearance before first day of employment.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
Additional Information EOPS counselors are placed in the district’s adjunct pool for possible assignments each semester. Applicants remain in the pool for one year; applications are purged thereafter. The position may require travel to any district site at the Chancellor’s discretion.
