Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.83 to USD $32.88. Education/Training
- High school with coursework in skilled craft or trades training. Experience
- 2 years' experience in charging small refrigeration appliances, changing compressors, belts and valves, and adjusting and calibrating temperature and humidity controls, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Responsibilities
Perform basic level work to repair and/or replace HVAC systems and equipment including chillers, cooling towers, direct expansion systems, electric blast coils, immersion coil pumps, fans, starters, pneumatic and electric controls, electrostatic filters, RTU's, AHU's, ducts, condensers, and other HVAC equipment and systems. Complete required documentation using work order forms and computer software applicable to construction activities. Install HVAC systems by interpreting blueprints, manufacturer specifications, written and verbal instructions. Make initial settings and final adjustments of HVAC systems and modify existing installations to obtain required results. Assist in the repair and overhaul of pumps and compressors by fitting and installing crankshafts, bearings, pistons, piston rings, valves and other mechanical parts. Modify and adjust air conditioning and refrigeration systems and units following established procedures. Assist higher level air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics with major overhauls, alterations and repairs as required. Change filters, clean coils, clean motors, change V-belts and sheaves, pack pumps and valves, and lubricate equipment. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
