The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking an Avionics and Software Flight Systems Electrical and Analysis Design Engineer, Associate or Experienced Level (Level 2 or 3) to join the Avionics & Software (AV&SW) Flight Systems team in Huntsville, Alabama, on the Space Launch System (SLS) program contracts. NASA’s SLS is one of the most powerful rockets in the world and offers capabilities related to payload mass, volume and energy to enable deep space crewed/uncrewed exploration. The Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) is SLS’s first evolution of design improvements as part of the Block 1B SLS Architecture. Job Description Summary
Maintains detailed requirements and specifications for various electronic products. Develops detailed designs of limited scope. Conducts various methods of testing and analysis to support design. Gathers data for technical performance measures and performs basic analysis. Provides basic engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product. Conducts trade studies and literature research to support future product designs. Works under general supervision. Position Responsibilities
Designs electronic hardware focused on space launch vehicle applications Develops avionics assembly designs primarily focused on instrumentation: strain gauges, static and dynamic pressure transducers, accelerometers, signal amplifiers, cryogenic temperature sensors, thermocouples, Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs), etc. Develops, documents and maintains electronic and electrical system requirements according to customer desires and contract requirements Develops statements of work and technical performance specifications Develops test plans/procedures and supports the execution of test events Leads Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolutions Executes various methods of testing and analysis to support design and production and to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements Works with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products Leads formal trade studies and literature research to support future product designs Develops solutions to technical problems Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location. Position may require travel up to 15% of the time. Work Authorization and Security
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. The ability to obtain access to a NASA facility is required and access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement. Level 2: Typically, 2 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. Level 3: Typically, 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related science or technology field One or more years of experience in electrical engineering with specific experience in instrumentation sensor design and/or electronics test methodology Experience with strain gauges, static and dynamic pressure transducers, accelerometers, signal amplifiers, cryogenic temperature sensors, thermocouples, RTDs and instrument metrology Design experience in noise reduction, shielding, and analog and digital filtering to provide high fidelity measurements Good communication, analytical, and organizational skills Experience with Environmental Testing (proof, leak, vibration, thermal, etc.) per SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540 and/or MIL-STD-810 Experience with Windchill Experience with IBM DOORS Ability to work in a team environment Previous design team or special project team participation Experience of digital and RF test equipment including signal generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes Relocation and Additional Details
