JR100135**Job Title**Mechanic II - C**Pay Rate**United States of America (Hourly)**Time Type**Full time**Summary****Duties and Responsibilities:*** Performs brake system repairs and replacements of brake system parts including wheel bearing replacement and packing* Repairs hydraulic, suspension, fuel and cooling systems* Removes and replaces or repairs transmissions and clutches* Operates testing equipment, troubleshoots and repairs electrical and mechanical systems* Performs welding and fabrication work for repair of equipment metal components* Performs preventive maintenance* Performs on-the-road repairs of disabled road construction equipment and heavy vehicles* Operates road construction equipment and heavy vehicles* Maintains record of repairs and services* Repairs or overhauls gasoline/diesel driven heavy trucks and road construction equipment* Performs related duties as required**Minimum Qualifications:*** Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and four (4) years' experience as a mechanic in gasoline/diesel operated vehicles or heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience* Knowledge of the different types of hand and power tools; knowledge of the operation and purpose of different lubricants; knowledge of diesel engines and their operations; knowledge of the use of electronic testing equipment* Skill in the operation of hand and power tools, and welding equipment* Ability to drive different road construction equipment and heavy vehicles; ability to road test vehicles and diagnose malfunctions and vehicle operating systems; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, auto part vendors, and the general public* Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance* Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test* Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license* Ability to obtain a valid Texas Class A Commercial driver's license (CDL) with Tank and Air Brakes within six (6) months from date of hire or promotion* May be required to work more than forty (40) hours during the workweek; required to be on call 24 hours a day**Working Environment and Physical Demands:*** Working conditions are primarily outdoor* Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions* Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, hazardous material, flammable and toxic fumes (battery acids, cleaning solvents, gasoline, etc.) rough terrain, poisonous plants, dirt, dust, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises* Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 25 pounds* Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 75 pounds* Will frequently communicate with co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information* Frequently moves about buildings and vehicles* Constantly positions self to perform essential functions* Constantly operates tools and equipment**Working With Bexar County**Bexar County offers employees a competitive salary, retirement, and benefits.
