Automotive Diagnostic Research Technician
for a role in
Allen Park, MI
The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a Ford or OEM dealership technician and must own their own tools. They should be computer-savvy, with strong Microsoft Office skills and basic web navigation abilities (no CAD design required). The candidate will be responsible for accurately inputting data into the SMART system and performing labor time studies, with attention to detail and efficiency.
Pay Range :
$29/hr. - $33/hr. (The pay range may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors)
JOB SUMMARY
About the Role:
Join a world-renowned motor vehicle parts supplier and help develop accurate labor time studies for Ford dealership technicians. This hands‑on, detail-oriented role combines automotive repair expertise with computer-based research and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and review service labor times (flat rate) for Ford dealers.
Perform Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) and Report A Problem (RAP) labor time studies.
Work closely with technical authors and clients to develop procedures and time studies.
Input data into the proprietary SMART system accurately and efficiently.
Conduct stopwatch or calculated labor time studies as needed (tools may be required onsite).
Peer review co-workers’ developed time studies.
Maintain professional appearance and conduct, ensuring accuracy and quality.
What We’re Looking For:
3–4+ years of dealership bumper‑to‑bumper service technician experience (Ford or other OEM preferred).
Must own your own tools and have a strong technical background in automotive repair.
Computer‑savvy: proficient in Microsoft Office, web navigation, Outlook, and basic software applications.
Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.
Familiarity with Ford OEM scan tools is a plus.
Quick learner with the ability to multitask between computer work and vehicle repair procedures.
Bonus Skills / Wish List:
ASE or State certifications.
Experience with technical authoring/publishing software.
Electrical diagnostic skills.
Automotive repair degree or Ford ASSET/GM ASEP training.
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis).
