Unit Secretary/Monitor Tech – Transplant and Intermediate Care
Job Summary

The role performs clerical duties, including maintaining patient records, scheduling patients for tests/procedures, transcribing physician orders, ordering supplies, and acting as a liaison between physicians, nursing, hospital staff, families, guests and patients. The position recognises and reports arrhythmia and computer data to the Registered Nurse.
Essential Functions
Maintain patient records; ensure that charts are current, complete and thinned as needed according to policies and procedures.
Schedule diagnostic procedures, exams and special procedures in a timely manner.
Transcribe physician orders.
Order, store and maintain supplies.
Act as a liaison between physicians, nursing, hospital staff, families, guests and patients.
Utilise communication equipment and relay information to appropriate personnel.
Inform physician and ancillary departments of patient admission, discharge, transfer or death in a timely manner.
Recognise and report arrhythmia and computer data according to policies and procedures.
Maintain proper documentation of patient records according to policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities Non‑management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Unit secretary or on‑the‑job training or six (6) months of clerical or healthcare related experience, or completion of a nursing fundamentals class. HS Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: None required other than that listed above.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if selected into a monitor tech role.
