Job Description Summary
Position Responsibilities
Functions as an advanced practitioner within the respective nursing specialty.
Provides consultation on nursing practice and assigned patient outcome.
In collaboration with physician, orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
Reviews all admission data within the designated time frames; determines suitability of the level of care in accordance with hospital established criteria.
Procures services and serves as advocate on behalf of patients, families and the hospital for scarce resources throughout the continuum of care. Facilitates and provides necessary patient and family education on admission as indicated.
Participates in the interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences. Provides guidance to team when doing patient care conference.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and nursing care of patients on the unit.
Interviews patients and completes a full comprehensive medical history and physical examination within 24 hours of admission.
Documents all information relative to the patient's history, physical examination, assessment and treatment plan following unit policy and standards.
Initiates referrals & collaborates with medical staff and other health care professionals. Coordinates management of patient care.
Responds to complex situations in a calm, competent & professional manner. Initiates &/or assists in Medical Emergency activities on the unit.
Assists Unit Director in assessing, evaluating and documenting competency of all nursing staff members. Provides input to Unit Director regarding clinical performance of staff.
Manages environment of care by assessing patient for fall risks and other risk factors; ensuring unit is safe and reports deficiencies to Nurse Director; coordinating the function of the therapeutic milieu.
Identifies areas needing improvement and actively participates in department's performance improvement program. Provides feedback to Nurse Director on an on-going basis concerns, improvements, changes, etc.
Promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infection by using and teaching hygienic practices.
Attends and actively participates in departmental meetings & in-service programs, providing positive suggestions and input.
Qualifications
License/Registration/Certification
State of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License; ACLS Certification; CPR certification required.
Education
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing.
Experience
At least 1 year experience as an APRN preferred.
