Description A
Registered Nurse
is a professional who provides patient care based on the nursing process; being involved with maintaining the standard of care for assigned patients through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Registered Nurse shall oversee and guide employees that are under his/her supervision. The Registered Nurse actively supports and promotes the Centers Philosophy and mission statement. The Registered Nurse is directed by the Charge Nurse.
What You’ll Do
Assesses patient status on admission to the preop area, the operating room and/or the post‑op area, and on a continuing basis.
Provides safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner, setting appropriate priorities, and coordinating nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and ensure readiness for discharge. Documents interventions and patient’s responses.
Ensures provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner.
Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.
Communicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require it, including surgeons, anesthesia, management and other staff.
Safely carries out physician’s orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities.
Initiates and participates in patient and family education, assessing learning needs according to patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn.
Displays an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care.
Takes part in pre‑ and post‑op phone calls and communicates any problems to the appropriate person.
Maintains competencies to function in RN role within specific area (e.g., OR circulator – identification, counting and care of instrumentation and sponges, skin preparation of surgical site).
Maintains competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patients, including airway protection, assessment and support of sedated patients.
Protects sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards such as electrical equipment, pressure points, minimizing exposure to maintain privacy and body temperature.
Demonstrates expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.
Assesses, anticipates and implements appropriate care throughout the surgical process, correlates clinical data with nursing care, and provides the patient with care measures congruent with his/her age, sex and health status.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, prioritizes work to meet the changing needs of the department.
Documents and performs nursing care in assigned area based on standards of care and practice, and TDC policies and procedures.
Adheres to all policies and procedures, including standards for confidentiality, infection control, safety (OSHA), attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
Serves as a role model and mentor, providing direction and leadership to other staff.
Demonstrates understanding of established emergency procedures for the Center, and the ability to direct and provide patient care in emergency situations.
Shows the ability to make decisions about Center‑based problems.
Participates in the orientation of nursing and ancillary staff as requested.
Participates in developing standardized patient education programs.
Participates in quality improvement activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies.
Works to achieve and maintain regulatory certification and accreditation of the Center.
Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice and for continued professional growth and development through printed material or other sources and by attending in‑services and seminars as appropriate.
Must be willing to flex work hours as needed and/or requested by Manager.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Training and understanding of HIPAA requirements and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.
Strong communication and outgoing, positive interpersonal skills.
Empathetic personality with attention to patient’s needs.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to work as a team member and uphold organizational standards and values.
Excellent judgment, dependability, and diligence.
Demonstrated high ethical standards and integrity.
Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
Customer and patient service orientation: prompt response to patient needs and ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations with tact, empathy, and diplomacy.
Professionalism: displays positive outlook and pleasant manner; does not instigate or participate in office gossip or negativity, keeps commitments, dresses appropriately, and is well‑groomed.
1‑2+ years’ experience in a surgery center preferred.
Has a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State.
Current BCLS certification.
Current ACLS certification preferred or basic EKG/arrhythmia identification certification.
ERM system familiarity.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Willingness to submit to a background check (drug screen for Ambulatory Surgery Centers only).
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to twenty‑five pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Must have close visual acuity to perform an activity including viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, interpretation, etc.
Must be able to be stationary for prolonged periods of time.
Cognitive Requirements
Executes tasks independently.
Learns and memorizes tasks.
Maintains concentration/focus on tasks.
Performs task in a demanding environment requiring multi‑task and prioritize work.
Must be comfortable working and interacting with large groups of people daily.
