Certified Medical Assistant (OHI – Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc.)
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports the Registered Nurse (RN) and the Director of Nursing by delivering patient care under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Provider. The CMA communicates with patients, obtains vital signs, documents in the electronic medical record (EMR), administers immunizations, orders supplies, and contributes to a positive team environment.
Responsibilities
Pre‑register patients for appointments by reviewing, prepping, and confirming appointments.
Obtain consent for family planning, medical treatment, HIPAA rights, medication history, NJIIS consent, financial responsibility, and completion of the Advance Directives section.
Verify insurance eligibility and ensure active coverage on the date of service using Athena’s eligibility module, payer website, or phone.
Manage patient demographics and maintain accurate records in Phreesia or daily patient demographic forms.
Collect co‑pays and fees, reconcile daily cash and credit card collections, and prepare deposits per the end‑of‑day procedure policy.
Administer vaccines according to policy, maintain a daily temperature log for refrigerator/freezer temperatures, and update logs monthly.
Assist providers during exams, perform routine blood work, and coordinate test results and follow‑ups via phone or patient portal.
Maintain compliance with OHI Infection Control Policy, including cleaning and disinfecting exam rooms, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining inventory logs.
Participate in daily huddles, collaborate with financial screeners for NJCEED referrals, and support provider schedules to meet daily productivity goals.
Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience / Licensure
Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist program.
Current National Certification as Medical Assistant is required.
Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is required.
Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is required.
Flexible schedule, weekend shifts, rotations of sites, and reliable transportation throughout Ocean and Monmouth Counties are required.
