The Fire Engineer provides for the safe response of firefighting apparatus and emergency medical services (EMS) alarms and for the effective operation of pumper, ladder and special firefighting equipment at emergencies and routine assignments. Participates in firefighting activities, fire prevention activities, public fire education, and fire station and equipment activities. Provides emergency medical care to sick and injured persons. The Fire Engineer is distinguished from the firefighter by the Engineer’s focus on operating equipment and fire apparatus. Fire Engineer may be required to fill in for a Fire Captain in an acting capacity.
Essential Job Functions:
Drives fire-pumping and aerial ladder apparatus to alarms and operates pump and ladders at the fire; regulates water supply and hose pressures.
Performs daily vehicle and equipment inspections and minor maintenance.
Documents mechanical failures of apparatus, tools and equipment on appropriate forms and reports deficiencies to Captain.
Conducts annual performance testing/inspection of fire apparatus, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire hose, life safety rope and documents findings.
Maintains familiarity with Town and related road networks.
Maintains familiarity with Town hydrant location and water systems.
Performs general maintenance and work in the upkeep of the fire station and surrounding grounds.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as fire reports, pre-fire plans, daily reports, and monthly breathing apparatus inspections.
Performs the duties of shift Captain in his absence.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of full-time paid experience as a firefighter.
A valid S.C. Class E driver’s license is required.
Must have an IFSAC NFPA Firefighter 2 or Pro Board certification.
Must have Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT), Pumper operations, Aerial operations andICS I-300 certifications.
Must possess NREMT or higher certification and qualify for SC DHEC licensure.
Must possess American Heart Association BLS instructor certification.
Job Grade N-110, Minimum Salary: $53,067.27
