Supervises:

Assistant Athletic Director/Head Trainer, athletic administrative support staff, head coaches and assistant coaches (directly or via evaluation system), event workers (as assigned), contracted athletic training services (as applicable), and weightroom supervision.

Position Summary The Athletic Director provides district-wide leadership and oversight for interscholastic athletics and related student sports’ programs. The Athletic Director organizes, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates middle and high school athletic programs; ensures compliance with PIAA/league rules and applicable state/federal requirements; promotes student‑athlete wellness and sportsmanship; and ensures equitable access and high‑quality athletic experiences aligned with TESD’s mission and values. Program Scope The Athletic Director oversees athletics across three seasons (fall/winter/spring) and manages an interscholastic program at Conestoga High School that includes 18 PIAA sports plus club sports offerings (e.g., Ice Hockey, Squash, Crew, Rugby).

Conestoga PIAA Sports by Season

Fall: Cheerleading, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball

Winter: Basketball, Cheerleading, Indoor Track, Swimming & Diving, Wrestling

Spring: Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball

Club (seasonal): Ice Hockey, Squash, Crew, Rugby

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & Culture

Lead, support, and continuously improve a comprehensive 7–12 athletic program focused on student growth, wellness, sportsmanship, and positive school climate.

Serve as a visible ambassador for TESD athletics with students, families, staff, officials, league partners, and community stakeholders.

Resolve issues and concerns related to athletics as they arise from parents and families.

Compliance, Risk Management & Equity

Ensure compliance with PIAA, league rules, eligibility requirements, and all district procedures; coordinate rules interpretation updates and required meetings.

Partner with district leadership and the Title IX Coordinator to support equitable opportunities, resources, and participation.

Implement and monitor safety protocols and legal duties related to supervision, facilities, emergency readiness, and student‑athlete health and welfare.

Operations, Scheduling & Event Management

Oversee scheduling for interscholastic contests (including rescheduling), transportation coordination, facility use, and practice calendars across three seasons.

Plan and supervise athletic events (including evenings/weekends): staffing, ticketing (if used), officials, security, medical coverage, and game‑day operations.

Coordinate postseason logistics (e.g., tournament entries, travel, lodging) as needed.

Staffing, Supervision & Coach Development

Support recruitment, selection, onboarding, and supervision of coaching staff; coordinate preseason coaches' meetings; provide feedback and evaluations aligned to district expectations.

Promote professional learning and standards‑based coaching aligned to PIAA rules, student safety, and district values.

Budget, Purchasing & Resources

Develop and manage the athletics budget; oversee purchasing, inventory, equipment issuance/returns, and vendor/bid coordination as required.

Collaborate with facilities/grounds, business office, and building administrators to maximize safe, efficient use of athletic spaces.

Student Support & Eligibility

Monitor academic eligibility processes and collaborate with school staff to support student‑athletes and families in understanding requirements and expectations.

Coordinate required athletic participation documentation and processes (e.g., PIAA forms; transfers where applicable).

Conduct pre‑season meetings with each team to outline expectations and procedures.

Build leadership capacity with student captains through seasonal Captain’s Council Meetings.

Other Duties

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum 5 years successful experience in education, coaching, and/or athletic administration (leadership experience preferred).

School administrative certification preferred but not required.

Demonstrated knowledge of PIAA rules, interscholastic athletic administration, and student safety/risk management.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple concurrent seasons and events.

Ability to work frequent evenings/weekends and travel within the state for contests and meetings.

Required Clearances (PA)

Act 34 / Act 114 / Act 151 clearances and other district-required employment documentation.
