Medical Assistant (Dermatology) – Annapolis, MD Join Anne Arundel Dermatology as a Medical Assistant in our outpatient dermatology clinic. The role includes preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies, and assisting clinicians with patient care.

Pay range: $17–23 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

Room patients and document intake.

Obtain and record vital signs.

Organize patient flow.

Set up procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.

Assist providers with dermatology procedures.

Prepare pathology/lab specimens and route them to the correct lab directed by patient insurance plans.

Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.

Review and address clinical task lists and nurse line messages.

Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule, keeping appropriate maintenance records.

Maintain medication supplies, discard out‑of‑date supplies, and keep appropriate records.

Ensure infection control, keeping supply rooms and cabinets stocked.

Order, sort, restock, and inventory all supplies.

Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.

Assist with administration of local anesthetic.

Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.

Maintain HIPAA compliance.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Able to triage patient concerns.

Familiar with and compliant with OSHA/HIPAA, infection control, and blood‑borne pathogen standards.

Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.

Experience administering injections.

Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD‑10 codes.

Knowledge of office financial policies.

Basic computer skills and experience using EMR.

Able to operate standard office equipment (computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc.).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Fluent in English.

Ability to function in a high‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.

Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.

Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.

Ability to multi‑task, prioritize appropriately, and work well individually and as part of a team.

Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Education and Experience

High School Graduate or GED required.

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or bachelor’s degree in the pre‑med or pre‑physician assistant track preferred.

CPR certification preferred.

1–2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient‑care experience preferred.

Previous experience in Dermatology preferred.

Physical Requirements

Standing and walking for extended periods.

Moderate talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.

Use of hands and fingers.

Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.

Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.

Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.

Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and potential injury from chemicals and sharp objects.
