Organization Overview Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, located in Los Angeles, is a non‑profit organization that provides comprehensive mental health services for children, adolescents, transitional aged youth, and adults. The organization consists of a standalone 55‑bed hospital and six outpatient facilities ranging from 14 to 134 beds, with approximately 400 employees.

Summary Of Position The Psychiatric Technician performs direct and indirect psychiatric care to promote the comfort, safety, and well‑being of assigned patients as authorized by established hospital policy and procedure.

All employees shall receive a premium shift differential pay of $1.50/hr for PM shifts.

Essentials Duties

Perform direct basic nursing care to promote comfort and safety of patients per hospital policies.

Demonstrate ability to perform CPR, seclusion, and restraint per hospital policies.

Accurately measure and record height, weight, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, intake and output per doctor’s order.

Promptly report important unusual patient observations to charge nurse.

Maintain accurate, legible documentation in dietary sheets, 15‑min check sheets, point sheets and contraband sheet.

Assist in providing a clean, comfortable and therapeutic environment – including cleaning and laundry.

Implement time out, 1:1 observation per hospital orders.

Transport and accompany patients to required hospital appointments.

Assist in the orientation of new psychiatric technicians.

Work with the treatment team in patient education and achieve treatment goals.

Encourage and teach patients personal hygiene and dietary habits, monitoring ADLs.

Act as a co‑leader in patient groups as assigned.

Carry out patient teaching projects with the supervision of the Charge Nurse/Supervisor.

Implement patient group activities with direction and support of the Charge Nurse/Supervisor.

Assist in the management of disturbed and potentially assaultive patients; respond to calls for assistance in emergencies, potentially requiring hands‑on care.

Respond to hospital emergency codes: Code Red, Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Triage, Code Silver and Dr. Emergency Code.

Complete all tasks in a prompt, accurate manner.

Be willing and able to work independently.

Exercise good judgment, objectivity, and arrive at sound conclusions.

Participate in unit patient care conferences and staff development programs to improve patient care, skills, and knowledge.

Conduct in‑service classes with guidance of the Charge Nurse/Supervisor.

Represent the unit at interdisciplinary team meetings.

Attend in‑service and continuing education classes regularly to maintain and increase skills.

Seek learning opportunities to gain new knowledge/skills that result in continuing quality improvement.

Seek appropriate guidance from the immediate supervisor to achieve expected outcomes.
