The RN II position is a licensed staff nurse, an experienced clinician functioning at the Competent to Proficient stage of Benner’s model of clinical practice. It provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, patient education, and maintenance of medical records. The role directs patient care effectively and efficiently for patients with varied and complex needs, collaborates with physicians and the interprofessional health care team to facilitate, coordinate and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and desired treatment outcomes. The RN II demonstrates clinical competence, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies, acting as a patient and family advocate. It assumes leadership roles including charge nurse or preceptor, participating in unit shared governance initiatives, and contributing to service line or hospital‑wide initiatives in partnership with management.

Qualifications
Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below.
Twelve months registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
Licenses and Certifications
Required: RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of Nursing. PSV Compact Licensure – must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency).
Required: BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association.
Preferred: Magnet – ANCC Recognized Certification.
Preferred: ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing assessments.
Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English necessary for essential functions.
Effective communication with patients, physicians, families and coworkers, applying positive language principles.

Develops, updates, and communicates plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family and team.
Provides patient teaching based on learning needs, evaluates comprehension and adapts methods.
Helps improve unit patient satisfaction score through peer accountability.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
Follows standards of care related to nursing process and regulatory requirements.
Identifies practice improvements using evidence‑based research to achieve core measures and patient safety outcomes.
Provides and modifies care for complex patients, coordinates with team, uses evidence‑based clinical judgment.
Improves quality and safety scores on unit‑based scorecard through reporting near misses and collaboration.
Finance Essential Functions
Manages time effectively, documents care timely, minimizes overtime, and prioritizes tasks.
Contributes to meeting department financial targets by decreasing length of stay and optimizing efficiency.
