Location & Schedule RN needed for the Acute Burn and Wound Care Unit (5 East) at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. This is a full‑time, 36‑hour/week night shift position with flexible self‑scheduling.
Unit Description 5 East is a 15‑bed Acute Burn and Wound Unit that serves as an extension of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. We care for adult patients with acute burn injuries (generally plastic surgery patients

Team & Culture Our nursing team is trained in medical‑surgical nursing as well as burn and wound care. The interdisciplinary team includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing assistants, physical, occupational and recreational therapists, chaplains, rehabilitation counselors, social workers and dietitians. We are team‑oriented, dynamic caregivers and experienced patient advocates, fostering a professional, collaborative atmosphere conducive to learning.
Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Education:
Identify and meet learning needs; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness and developmental level of patients/family.
Evaluation of Care:
Identify expected patient outcomes; revise plan of care with guidance; participate in interdisciplinary evaluation; communicate relevant information.
Implementation:
Demonstrate competence with complex patient problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; apply nursing standards, policies and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult resources when needed.
Leadership:
Develop professional growth goals; achieve goals within time frame; participate in unit goals and performance improvement; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback; promote a safe, clean and secure environment.
Patient Assessment:
Recognize data from complex situations; synthesize assessment data; anticipate discharge needs; foster relationships with families.
Planning:
Collaborate with patient/family to update plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex problems.
Research:
Read applicable journals; bring ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from a professional nursing school. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within seven years.
Licensure/Certification:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as a Healthcare Provider.
Professional Experience:
One (1) year of nursing experience.
