Position Summary This position will serve as Chief of the Division of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology. The role carries an Open Rank faculty appointment and an at-will Division Chief secondary appointment. The Division Chief must be a leader in our robust academic practice and promote the development of expertise in research, medical education, complex clinical care, and quality and safety. Responsibilities include a combination of administrative, clinical, research, and educational duties. Favored candidates will possess creativity, passion for academic leadership, superior communication and interpersonal skills, and a clear demonstration of the qualities needed to manage a multifaceted academic division and center; they must also inspire confidence in their reasoning and decision-making.

Responsibilities The Chief reports directly to the Chair of Medicine and works collaboratively with division chiefs across the department, as well as with other senior leaders, to carry out the intertwined missions of the Department of Medicine and UNC Health. The duties encompass steering the division’s strategic direction, overseeing administrative functions, fostering research and education initiatives, and enhancing quality and safety outcomes. Rank is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

MD Degree

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Board certification in Internal Medicine

Demonstrated leadership skills

Excellent communication skills
