GENERAL PURPOSE
Direct the work of all packers on the shift. Maintain proper levels of packing supplies. Pack, seal, shrink wrap and store pallets of finished goods.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Creates and maintains personnel files.
Checks machine schedules, oversees and directs packers on each piece of equipment.
Brings corrugated from the warehouse into the production area.
Cuts layer boards and dividers as needed, operates cutter in proper and safe manner.
Unloads pallet truck and stores pallets in department for all production lines.
Ensures all customer requirements are adhered to, according to specific packing instructions.
Shrink wraps loads for shipment.
Oversees and performs line clearance procedures when needed.
Operates all motorized equipment in department: hand truck, fork lift and corrugated fork lift truck.
Provides training to other employees.
Stores incoming corrugated in warehouse racks.
Checks materials such as tape, labels, shrink wrap and will notify supervisor when materials need to be re-ordered.
Performs other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a minimum of 6 months’ experience working as a packer.
Must be able to obtain fork lift certification.
Must demonstrate ability to direct work of others.
Must be able to maintain good attendance.
Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable
Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish is required for this role.
SAFE WORK REQUIREMENTS
PPE: Safety Glasses, Ear Plugs or Earmuffs, Safety Shoes, Gloves when required, Hard Hats, and any other PPE required based on the job or task.
Compliance with Smurfit Westrock employment policies, handbook, and workplace safety policies, rules, and procedures.
Submission of Safety Concerns and Safety Work Order / Incident Reporting and Learning / Basic understanding of the Safety Excellence System
Follow the site management (General Manager, Plant Manager, Department Manager, Shift Supervisor) assignments for completing tasks and managing programs as part of the Safety Excellence System.
Must follow the Training Matrix assigned in the Learning and Development System. Training could be assigned annually, Quarterly, or at the time of a new process/procedure.
Must have a clear understanding of the STOP Work Process – Employees have the right to STOP the work at any time to gain a better understanding of the process or to ensure safety standards are met.
