Responsibilities
Supervise library staff including interviews, hiring, training, creating expectations and duties, and completing performance evaluations.
Provide legal reference assistance to judicial staff, county staff, attorneys and the public to locate and obtain legal research materials.
Prepare and present annual budget to Law Library Committee; recommend purchases to committee; monitor administration of the budget, purchases, payment of invoices and collection of monies.
Develop and maintain the Law Library collection including print and electronic formats focusing on specialized law materials and databases; monitor collection for accuracy of materials and provide current materials.
Design, edit and produce monthly newsletter; recommend policy and procedures to the Law Library Committee: maintain internal policy and procedure manual.
Attend and participate in Fort Bend County Library Department Head meetings.
Work as scheduled at the reference desk in a Fort Bend County Library adult services department.
Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school; knowledge of current library practices and technologies, legal and general databases, reference interview techniques. Experience in the legal profession may be considered in lieu of a master's degree.
3 years job related experience. Legal background and recent public library experience preferred.
Excellent working knowledge of Westlaw and other databases; good computer skills including ability to create and work with Excel spreadsheets; good verbal/written communication; excellent mathematical skills and ability to work with budgets; supervisory and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
Must have valid driver's license and proof of Texas Liability Insurance Requirements met.
