Job Description The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a part‑time Social Worker 3 to join our team. This stationary position is located in an acute psychiatric hospital setting, with an 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. schedule.
The Social Worker 3 works with a forensic population which includes incarcerated patients admitted for evaluation and treatment for competency. This position requires completion of progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge planning within stringent timelines. The successful candidate will have skills in assessment of patients and extensive case management skills, with a background in severe mental illness and applicable treatment approaches. Knowledge of community service agencies, habilitation services, managed care, disability access points, and the mental health system in Iowa is preferred.
Applicants must complete a background check to be considered for this position. CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care, offering individualized treatment plans, medication, group counseling, activities therapies, and support for patients with special education needs.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree and three years of full‑time social work experience in a public or private agency.
Graduation with a Bachelor's degree in social work and two years of full‑time social work experience.
A Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
An equivalent combination of graduate education and up to thirty semester hours for one year of the required experience.
Employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full‑time experience as a Social Worker 2.
Additional Qualification Requirements
Applicants for designated case‑management positions may need a Bachelor's degree with a major or at least 30 semester hours in relevant sciences and 12 months of full‑time experience in chronic mental illness, developmental disabilities, or intellectual disabilities as a targeted case manager.
Alternatively, an Iowa license to practice as a registered nurse and three years of full‑time nursing or human services experience with the above populations.
