Job Summary: Under general supervision and in collaboration with the health care team, the RN uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing and evaluating nursing care for patients and coordinating nursing care activities with other health care disciplines.
Essential Responsibilities
Assessment: Performs accurate multi‑system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, education needs and discharge planning. Identifies deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests, reassesses the patient throughout hospitalization, and performs a complete discharge assessment.
Planning: Develops an individual nursing plan of care, coordinates patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital and clinic departments and community agencies, develops patient teaching plans and documents them, appropriately delegates patient care activities based on patient condition and scope of practice, establishes priorities for patient care, and classifies acuity level of assigned patients.
Implementation: Initiates appropriate measures based on protocol for the management of the medical and/or surgical patient, correctly carries out the physician’s plan of care, accurately documents in the EMR, utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, performs all necessary procedures correctly, utilizes available teaching plans, accurately calculates and administers medications, and initiates emergency measures.
Evaluation: Evaluates assessment methods, plan of care, and patient response to treatment and participates in unit quality assurance activities.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum three (3) years of recent experience in Labor and Delivery (a one‑year internal internship can substitute).
Nine (9) months of RN experience in the last twelve (12) months.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 3 months of hire or Compact License; Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 3 months of hire; Neonatal Resuscitation Program; Basic Life Support required at hire.
Computer keyboarding skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous health care experience.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
Five (5) plus years of recent experience in Labor and Delivery.
One (1) year of high‑risk labor and delivery experience within the last two (2) years.
