Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured faculty position (open rank) to serve as a core member of the Physical Therapy Doctorate (DPT) Program in a hybrid format. This eight-semester DPT program combines online and on-campus activities and offers the same curriculum as the residential program. The role allows the faculty member to work remotely from their location; however, faculty must be able to travel to and stay in Charleston at scheduled times each semester for teaching and required program events. The successful candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring efforts within the DPT program, develop a scholarly agenda, and engage in community and professional service appropriate for the faculty rank. Licensure in South Carolina is necessary for all faculty members in the MUSC hybrid DPT program.
Essential Tasks and Functions
Demonstrate the ability to adhere to the core values of MUSC and the physical therapy profession.
Demonstrate contemporary knowledge and skill/euxpertise in the areas of assigned teaching.
Communicate effectively and professionally, both written and oral, online and in person, with administration, faculty, staff, lab instructors, and students.
Collaborate and interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including students, administration, faculty, staff, and lab instructors.
Be organized and detail-oriented with program activities such as communication, course planning, curriculum assessment, course management, and assignments.
Handle various responsibilities and multitask as a full-time faculty member within the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, including teaching, service, scholarship, and coaching students.
Hold a professional license or be eligible for licensure in South Carolina (or a compact state) in addition to the state of residence.
Demonstrate strong digital literacy and computer skills to effectively engage in and meet the demands of an online, technology-enhanced didactic instructional format.
Conduct evidence-informed teaching, integrate technology within the classroom, and build a student-centered community within the online classroom.
Understand higher education and contemporary clinical practice relevant to leadership in physical therapy, with knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting education and the profession.
Teaching and Education Responsibilities Teach courses as agreed upon with the DPT Hybrid Division Director, with workloads aligned with CHP faculty guidelines.
Service Responsibilities Based on rank, service should be at the state, national, or international level. All MUSC DPT hybrid faculty will participate in Program/Division and Departmental service.
