The Quality Technician is responsible for performing comprehensive quality checks and tests on units, materials, and products throughout the production process to ensure they meet established quality, safety, and reliability standards. Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of finished and in-process goods to ensure compliance with work instructions, specifications, and quality standards.
Perform first-piece inspections, verifying that initial units produced meet quality control requirements.
Utilize required gaging instruments for precise measurements and tests, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
Complete gage calibration as needed, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
Accurately record inspection results, relevant statistical data, and input data into the quality management system.
Analyze inspection data and generate reports, identifying deviations from established standards and recommending corrective actions.
Assist in the writing, updating, and optimization of inspection procedures, protocols, and checklists to reflect best practices and improve efficiency.
Recommend modifications to inspection standards, methods, and procedures based on data analysis and industry best practices.
Perform internal audits to ensure that quality standards, processes, and safety protocols are consistently adhered to.
Coordinate the calibration of test equipment and fixtures to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability.
Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and functioning, minimizing downtime and ensuring consistent product quality.
Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior team members, helping to develop their skills and knowledge in quality inspection practices.
Assist in training new staff and ensuring they are equipped to perform inspections according to company standards.
Ensure that all quality-related documentation is completed fully, accurately, and in a timely manner.
Adhere to 5S standards to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Follow all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Escalate complex issues or deviations when necessary, providing detailed documentation and supporting management in decision-making.
Address and resolve quality concerns in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring minimal impact on production schedules.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills/Competencies
Advanced knowledge and experience with gaging instruments and their application (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
Strong technical expertise in interpreting blueprints, work instructions, and quality specifications.
Ability to lead and mentor a team, providing guidance and support to junior inspectors.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
Strong analytical skills to identify root causes of defects or deviations and recommend corrective actions.
Ability to analyze complex data, summarize findings, and present clear recommendations for improvement.
Exceptional attention to detail in inspections, documentation, and quality reporting.
Basic to intermediate math skills for performing measurements and data analysis.
Proficiency in using computer systems and software for data entry, reporting, and quality management systems (ERP, MRP).
