Job Title:
Radiology Tech / Mammography Tech
Department:
Diagnostic Imaging
Reports to:
Diagnostic Imaging Manager, Assistant Manager
Definition of Position Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Performs medical imaging techniques to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.
Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:
Performs diagnostic radiography procedures
Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, documenting information for use by a licensed practitioner
Prepares patient for procedures; provides instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety
Selects and operates radiography equipment and related devices to achieve desired results
Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort
Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination
Determines radiographic technique exposure factors, minimizing exposure to patient and others
Evaluates images for technical quality and proper identification
Verifies informed consent for, and assists a licensed practitioner with, interventional procedures
Practices aseptic techniques as necessary
Provides physical and emotional support to patients during procedures
In agreement with state statute(s) and/or institutional policy, prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed
Supports hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures
Participates in required education for applicable programs
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications Education:
Required: Bachelor’s or an Associate degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program
Preferred: NA
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:
Required: OBMI and ARRT registered Mammography technologist; Current BLS certification
Preferred: NA
Experience:
Required: None
Preferred: Minimum 2 years’ experience

Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently, with frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients up to 25 pounds. Occasional lifting or transferring of individuals over 100 pounds may occur with appropriate aids or team assistance. The role may require sitting for long periods and other essential physical tasks as described in the full ADA guidelines.
Working Conditions This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment (hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility). It may involve variable indoor temperatures, exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment. PPE is used as required. The role is fast-paced and may require quick response to changing circumstances, including emergencies, with multiple simultaneous demands and varying noise levels.
