Clinical Fellow – Renal & Transplant The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country providing a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and serving as a base for medical education, training and research. Main duties of the job The renal and transplant service at the Oxford Kidney Unit includes a 16‑bed renal ward, 16‑bed transplant ward, 12‑bed day‑case unit, 39 haemodialysis stations, and PD and specialist nursing teams. The unit has five network sites spread across High Wycombe, Stoke Mandeville, Swindon, Milton Keynes and Banbury.

As a clinical fellow you will:

Rotate across acute renal and transplant wards, outpatient dialysis units, and the renal day‑case unit; cover inpatient care, dialysis, and day‑case procedures.

Perform renal biopsies, provide vascular access (temporary and tunneled dialysis lines) under close consultant supervision.

Participate in a 1:10 out‑of‑hours rota and membership of the medical emergency team on the Churchill site overnight.

Engage in induction and education sessions, post‑clinic discussions, formal meetings, and peer learning activities.

Conduct audit work and pursue clinical research projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities This clinical fellow position commences 3rd February 2026 for 12 months (or part thereof). At Churchill Hospital, you will bond with the renal and transplant team, contribute to clinical governance, teaching, and support weekly ST training covering core medical curriculum.

Professional registration with the General Medical Council.

Completion of pre‑employment checks: CRB, occupational health clearance.

Contract: The post is offered under the 2018 Terms and Conditions of Service, approved for all NHS doctors and dentists in training (England).

Person specification Qualifications / Training

GMC licence to practice.

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

MRCP (UK) or equivalent.

Advanced Life Support certificate (Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent).

Eligibility to work in the UK.

Additional related qualifications (e.g., intercalated degree, BSc, BA, MedSci).

European Speciality Examination in Nephrology (ESENeph) or equivalent.

Experience

Previous nephrology experience at registrar/resident grade.

Comprehensive employment history.

Substantive NHS post experience.

Clinical skills and experience up to date and fit for safe practice.

Independent insertion of vascular access catheters.

Completion of Internal Medical Training (IMT) programme.

Experience with renal biopsy and tunneled lines.

Skills and Knowledge

Effective administrative and time‑management skills; contribution to successful teamwork.

Experience in teaching/training, clinical audit, quality improvement, evidence‑based practice.

Good spoken and written English.

Involvement in an audit, quality improvement, research project, or other activity.

Peer‑reviewed presentations or publications.
