**Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist I**

**A Brief Overview**

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized MRI equipment to produce computer-generated diagnostic images which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. They perform procedures at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision.

**What you will do*** Review orders prior to the day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.* Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure and MR safety while utilizing effective communication.* Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.* Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.* Perform MRI procedures as required based on physician’s order.* Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of MRI and related coils to obtain highest quality images of the anatomy being scanned.* Start I.V., load and operate power injector, and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.* Completion of exam in hospital information system.* Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.* May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.

**Education Qualifications*** Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology. Required or* Certificate of MRI technology certification program. Required

**Experience Qualifications*** Minimum one (1) year MRI experience Preferred

**Skills and Abilities*** Understand and utilize anatomical positioning, physics* MRI safety* Critical thinking* Time management* Effective communication* Proficiency in IV access for contrast media administration

**Licenses and Certifications*** Magnetic Resonance Imaging - American Registry Radiologic Technologist ARRT (MR) certification required or registry eligible (if eligible must obtain MR certification within 24 months of hire or transfer date). Required* Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two years is Required* South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association certified. Preferred
