Job Description:
The Assistant Controller will work with the Controller to ensure that the University’s accounting and reporting processes are accurate and maintained on a timely basis.
Duties and responsibilities:
Perform monthly/annual accounting closing procedures including creating and recording necessary journal entries
Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations; review account reconciliations prepared by others on the accounting team
Maintain finance lease schedules and journal entries, related amortization schedules and manage the processing of all lease invoices
Post monthly cash transactions and provide banking information to other departments who post transactions; perform uploads of fund-raising cash transactions to the accounting system
Maintain monthly deferred revenue schedules and prepare related entries
Assist with the annual financial audit process; manage specific areas of the audit and prepare year end audit schedules; provide information for the annual tax return and work with the tax preparers
Monitor/reconcile endowment fund investment account activity and record related monthly journal entries
Assist the Controller with variance analyses and provide explanations as a part of the month end closing process
Perform financial aid/grant cash drawdowns from governmental sites
Provide support for accounting system functions (i.e. account set up, etc)
Liaise with other departments within the University to provide appropriate accounting guidance; manage both incoming/outgoing requests from/to multiple departments
Provide ad hoc analysis and project management for the Controller and CEO
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting is required; experience with not-for-profit accounting is a plus
Minimum 5 years accounting experience
Strong Excel skills required, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs; experience with Banner is a plus
Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
Must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail
Ability to effectively handle multiple demands and appropriately prioritize responsibilities
