Position Description The Department of Neuroscience at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for Assistant/Associate/Full Project Scientists in the area of brain MR imaging in the Feinberg Lab. The goal is to advance scientific discovery using the Next Generation (NexGen) 7T scanner, the most powerful 7T scanner in the world, and support the scanner as a resource for the neuroscience research community.

The Project Scientists will:

Participate and assist in leading NexGen 7T research projects.

Collaborate with academic and industrial partners, mentor and train graduate and undergraduate students.

Lead development of novel imaging sequences and image reconstruction techniques to fully utilize the scanner’s high‑performance gradient system, receiver arrays, dynamic shim array, and parallel transmit system.

General support duties include:

Supporting project‑related pulse sequences and updating external users’ sequence code for the NexGen 7T platform.

Managing QA of the RF coils and scanner peripherals.

Collaborating with industrial partners on maintenance of scanner components.

Contributing to maintenance of lab SOPs and scan protocols.

Data collection and storage management.

Data processing, analysis, and image reconstruction.

Additional duties include:

Preparation and submission of manuscripts.

Preparation and submission of grants.

Response to reviewers.

Presentation at conferences.

Attendance at weekly lab meetings and giving regular presentations.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

PhD (or equivalent international degree).

Additional qualifications (required at time of start):

At least 5 years post‑PhD research experience.

Preferred qualifications:

PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field.

Demonstrated experience in high‑resolution functional and structural MR imaging of the brain.

Track record of peer‑reviewed publications and talks at conferences.

Experience in MRI sequence programming.

Experience in MRI reconstruction and parameter mapping.

Experience in high‑field MR imaging.

Programming skills in C, C++, Python, and MATLAB.

Experience in MRI hardware engineering (e.g., RF systems and circuit design).

Ability to communicate research to the public and potential partners.

Experience in MRI pulse sequence design, MRI parameter mapping, MRI image reconstruction, or MRI RF system development.
