Overview

Description This entry level/early career professional, dual applied science/product systems focused position utilizes the core competencies of thermal and fluid sciences in the specialized areas of combustion and emissions science, using and advancing analytical and experimental approaches to answer key questions about the performance and architecture of a system or component. This drives decisions and creates technical content which ultimately leads to state of the art, highly effective, environmentally friendly, and competitive products. Education, Licenses, Certifications College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Experience Entry level/Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred. Key Responsibilities

Investigates product, system, and/or technology problems related to thermal and fluid sciences; understands causal mechanisms, recommends action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members. Applies and supports improvement of processes such as Pre Program Planning (PPP), Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), Functional Excellence Practice (FEP); uses tools related to thermal and fluid sciences (GT-Power, Fluent, Converge, Concerto, CyberApps, CDAT, Mach, test data calculation, DARTS, test data storage, Calterm, ECM calibration, Emissions data system, Integrity, ACCEPTS ECM in-loop test bench) to support processes and enable high quality decision making. Obtains input and negotiates with immediate stakeholders and communicates recommendations to support project decisions or input for further analysis, design optimization, feasibility studies, or architecture definition. Makes decisions on day-to-day project details such as analysis, testing, and stakeholder communication that impact project progression. Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with increasing technical complexity and ambiguity with experience. Provides independent execution of established work processes while developing technology or product knowledge; contributes to system and process improvements. Involves minimal direct management of people but may coordinate/work with technicians and/or temporary student employees. Contributes to team goals and develops proficiency in critical competency areas. Competencies and Responsibilities

Applies Principles of Combustion and Emissions Science; interprets/predicts combustion system performance using quantitative/qualitative understanding of chemical energy conversion, exhaust pollutants formation, modeling tools, controls, and experimental tools. Applies Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer; interprets/predicts fluid/thermal system performance with flow, heat transfer, modeling, and experimental tools. Applies Principles of Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems; interprets performance of engines, turbines, fuel cells, and batteries using thermodynamics and modeling tools. Product Failure Mode Avoidance; identifies interfaces, functions, interactions, and failure modes to improve product reliability. Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis; uses computational tools to predict product function relative to system requirements. Product Problem Solving; uses data-based solutions, identifies root causes, and prevents recurrence. System Requirements Engineering; translates stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and tracks changes. Systems Thinking; defines system boundaries, interfaces, lifecycle, and analyzes interactions to predict behavior and guide modifications. Collaborates; communicates effectively; demonstrates decision quality and drives results. Self-development and Values differences; seeks growth and values diverse perspectives. Applies Principles of Statistical Methods; analyzes data with statistics and design of experiments to inform decisions. Product Verification and Validation Management; develops validation plans, negotiates requirements, and evaluates results to support product decisions. Technical Documentation; documents knowledge for stakeholders and knowledge transfer. Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control; plans, schedules, coordinates, and executes product development activities; ensures product capability meets expectations. Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls; specifies software features and control architectures; configures control interactions between hardware and software. Qualifications

Demonstrated engineering aptitude via core coursework (Controls, Mechanics, Physics, Dynamics) and/or hands-on experience (e.g., Formula SAE, Baja, robotics, internships). Data analysis skills; problem solving skills; test design and analysis. Interest and/or experience in engine and powertrain systems is preferred. Good communication skills; knowledge of MS Office tools and Matlab/Simulink is preferred. Job Details
