Role Summary: Caterpillar is developing machines with advanced electric drive powertrains. A key part of these powertrains are the controls and software for the motors, generators and powertrain systems. Accurate high speed HIL systems are critical to ensure the controls and software are working properly. As an Electric Drive Controls Verification engineer you will be responsible for developing HIL systems to test the powertrain controls. You will interact with the system designers and controls engineers to develop the HIL models, implement the models on the various HIL platforms and work directly with the software developers to test the software. As part of this team you may also participate in on machine testing at Caterpillar’s proving grounds.
With you will do:
Gather requirements for HIL plant modeling
Implement plant models on HIL systems
Work with controls and software engineers to verify software on the HIL systems
Produce test results documentation
Replicate field issues on the HIL
Provide feedback for improvement of the controls and software
What you will have:
Analytical Thinking:
Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Problem Solving:
Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Embedded Systems:
Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.
Technical Troubleshooting:
Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Product Testing:
Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Top candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science
Typically, have 2+ years’ experience in developing HIL test platforms
Typically, have 2+ years’ experience in plant modeling with Matlab/Simulink
Experience with Python
Experience with electric machine controls and power electronics hardware
Experience with CAN Datalink tools (CANape and CANanalyzer)
Experience with GIT configuration management tool

The location for this position is Mossville, IL

Summary Pay Range: $97,530.00 - $146,290.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
