Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Mental Health Counselor provides trauma-informed, client-centered counseling services to individuals experiencing homelessness and co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. This role supports clients in stabilizing their mental health, reducing substance use, and progressing toward housing stability and recovery. The counselor works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, culturally responsive care. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide individual and group counseling to clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, risk assessments, and ongoing clinical evaluations Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and recovery goals Utilize evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, Harm Reduction, and trauma-informed care Support clients in crisis situations, including de-escalation and safety planning Coordinate care with case managers, medical providers, housing staff, and external service agencies Assist clients with linkage to substance use treatment, psychiatric services, medical care, and community resources Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with agency, state, and federal requirements Participate in case conferences, supervision, and interdisciplinary team meetings Advocate for clients’ needs related to housing stability, mental health treatment, and recovery supports Ensure compliance with confidentiality, ethical standards, and program policies Qualifications Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or related field required Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or co-occurring disorders preferred Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented models Strong assessment, documentation, and clinical communication skills Company Description The Bachrach Group (TBG) is a New York-based staffing and recruiting agency founded in 1974 by Richard Bachrach.
