This position involves physics-based modeling of light scattering processes and their impact on the sensitivity and design of the Cosmic Explorer next-generation gravitational-wave observatories. The research focuses on relating optical surface qualities and stray light baffle designs to infrastructure requirements. Requirements

Knowledge of optical simulation tools for the diffuse and coherent propagation of light within long-baseline interferometers. Programming skills to maintain and document FFT optical simulation code in Matlab or Python. Ability to collaborate with other Cosmic Explorer team members involved in experiment design. Development of design requirement documents to establish hardware specifications and guidelines for future gravitational-wave detectors. Basic Qualifications

PhD in physics or a related field. At least 6 years of experience in optical design or simulation and 3 years in experimental interferometry. Familiarity with mirror coating and polishing specifications. Preferred Qualifications

12 years of experience in optical simulation. Knowledge of numerical methods in computation. Understanding of thermal distortion mechanisms and beam wavefront deterioration caused by thermal aberrations. Additional Information

Compensation : $86.54 per hour. The final salary will be determined based on various factors including experience, education, and training.
