Summary

The Business, Engineering, & Technology (BET) Division at Howard Community College is seeking individuals who would like to apply for adjunct (part‑time) faculty in Cyber Security and Network Security. This pool will be utilized to fill part‑time openings to fill available sections.

  • CMSY-158 (Fundamentals and Practice for the Network+ Exam)
  • CMSY-176 (Cybersecurity Fundamentals/Practice)
  • CMSY-262 (Encryption and Secure Communications)
  • CMSY-263 (Ethical Hacking and Cyber Defense)
  • CMSY-266 (Cybersecurity Analysis and IDPS)

Courses are offered in a variety of modalities including face‑to‑face, scheduled remote, flexible online (asynchronous), or hybrid.

Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Teaching of courses including CMSY-158 (Fundamentals and Practice for the Network+ Exam), CMSY-176 (Cybersecurity Fundamentals/Practice), CMSY-262 (Encryption and Secure Communications), CMSY-263 (Ethical Hacking and Cyber Defense), or CMSY-266 (Cybersecurity Analysis and IDPS).
  • Plan, organize, and teach curriculum content in alignment with course objectives.
  • Use applicable technology and pedagogical principles, teach course content via an appropriate delivery format (may include face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, and remote instruction).
  • Complete required institutional trainings and professional development.
  • Follow department and division requirements for preparing a course syllabus.
  • Plan and deliver appropriate instructional activities that promote student engagement and learning.
  • Evaluate student performance using assessment tools as directed by the department.
  • Inform students in a timely manner of their progress.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date electronic grade book and enter final grades by the established due date.
  • Comply with attendance and grading requirements as established for the course.
  • Participate in departmental evaluation, program assessment, course assessment and external designation/accreditation processes as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with students, including timely replies to student emails. Use the assigned HCC email for communication with the department and with students.
  • Obtain and maintain certifications as required by 3rd party content providers.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's degree

Preferred Experience

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Preferred technical qualifications include certifications including CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA PenTest+, CompTIA CySA+, ISC2 CISSP, SANS/GIAC, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CCNA, CCNP.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems, Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Assessment, AWS are strongly desired.
  • Experience teaching at a community college preferred.
