is a VC‑backed startup (YC S24) building AI‑powered medical record review tools for the workers’ compensation ecosystem. We process 10M+ pages of medical records per month and are growing rapidly across national claims organizations. We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer with real industry experience, someone who has built and maintained production systems, seen them break, and knows how to scale them responsibly. This is a hands‑on, high‑ownership role. You’ll work directly with the founding team to design, build, and evolve core product systems across frontend, backend, and ML‑adjacent workflows. Some Expectations for the Role
Production frontend applications Backend systems and APIs ML‑adjacent workflows (pipelines, inference orchestration, data quality) Scaling, reliability, and system design decisions This role is for someone who has seen things break in production, understands tradeoffs, and can help us build systems that scale cleanly as volume and customer complexity increase. You will have real ownership. What You’ll Work On
Frontend
Build and maintain complex, data‑heavy web interfaces used by internal ops teams and external enterprise clients Work with React (TypeScript), modern state management, and component systems Design workflows for reviewing, validating, and navigating large medical record datasets Collaborate closely with ops, QC, and product to ship pragmatic, usable features Backend
Design and maintain backend services and APIs (Python preferred) Own data models, API contracts, and business logic that power ingestion, processing, and review Build systems that handle high throughput, async processing, retries, and failure modes Work with cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS), storage, queues, and background workers ML‑Adjacent / Data Systems
Integrate with ML inference pipelines (LLMs, document processing, classification, extraction) Build tooling around quality control, auditing, confidence scoring, and human‑in‑the‑loop review Collaborate with ML engineers on schema design, output validation, and deployment workflows You don’t need to train models (although it is a plus) but you must understand how ML systems behave in production Systems & Ownership
Make architectural decisions Improve reliability, observability, and performance as volume scales Identify tech debt before it becomes a bottleneck Help set engineering standards and mentor more junior engineers What We’re Looking For
Required
3+ years of professional software engineering experience Strong full‑stack experience across frontend and backend in production environments Strong backend experience (Python preferred) Experience building and maintaining React‑based frontends (TypeScript preferred) Comfort designing APIs, data models, and asynchronous workflows Experience operating systems at scale and handling production incidents Ability to reason through tradeoffs and make pragmatic architectural decisions Strong Plus
Experience working with ML or data‑heavy systems in production Familiarity with LLM‑powered workflows, document processing, OCR, or NLP Experience in healthcare, medical‑legal, fintech, or other regulated environments Prior experience in a startup or small‑team environment with high ownership Experience designing internal tools for operations or quality control teams Why Brighterway
