Role Summary The Managing Director is a key leadership role responsible for aligning technology with the mission and goals of the Jewish Federation Bay Area. IT is an enabler for every team in the Federation, making this role especially critical to our growth and success. As our Head of Information Technology, you will drive the technological vision for our organization, ensuring our systems are scalable, secure, and innovative. This role requires a forward‑thinking leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. As a core member of our leadership team, you will set the direction for our IT strategy while staying closely connected to day‑to‑day priorities. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Microsoft solutions and will be instrumental in fostering a collaborative, mission‑driven organizational culture. This role will play a pivotal role in spearheading and implementing the Federation’s AI strategy and adoption.
Essential Functions
Lead the development and execution of the organization’s IT strategy, ensuring technology investments are tightly aligned with the Federation’s mission, business objectives, and long‑term growth plans.
Proactively partner with senior leadership team to identify and implement technology solutions that directly enhance business capabilities, such as improving data utilization for donor insights, streamlining constituent engagement workflows, and accelerating philanthropic impact.
Establish and maintain robust IT governance frameworks, policies, and documentation to ensure effective prioritization, risk management, and resource allocation across all technology initiatives.
Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.
Lead digital transformation initiatives and optimize the use of Microsoft solutions (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure, Teams, SharePoint, Power Platform) to support organizational goals.
Identify and implement process improvements that enhance productivity and enable data‑driven decision‑making.
Partner with peers, especially the organization’s functional leaders, to understand their goals and identify opportunities to leverage technology in new ways to achieve business results.
Customer Service & Support
Oversee and participate in help desk operations, ensuring high‑quality end‑user support, productivity and satisfaction.
Foster a customer‑centric IT environment by continuously seeking feedback and proactively addressing user concerns.
Ensure users are trained for proper and efficient use of key IT tools and systems.
Security & Compliance
Develop, implement, and enforce IT security policies, procedures, and best practices to protect organizational data and systems.
Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and manage cyber‑insurance requirements.
Conduct regular risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and security audits; maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Technical Leadership & Management
Oversee the design, implementation, security and maintenance of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including network systems, endpoint devices, cloud services, and business applications.
Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for IT initiatives.
Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring service level agreements are met.
Lead, mentor, and develop a small IT team, fostering a collaborative and service‑oriented culture.
Recruit, train, and support IT staff, promoting continuous learning and professional growth.
Model and promote the organization’s values, mission, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
