California Healthcare & Hospice

is seeking a physician leader to join our team as a Hospice Medical Director (we will also consider a Medical Director Designee or Medical Consultant based on experience and availability). We are a Southern California hospice with offices in

Burbank (HQ)

and

La Jolla , serving patients across Southern California, with the majority of current growth and clinical activity in San Diego County. We are known for being highly organized and responsive. Our interdisciplinary team includes experienced RNs, NPs, MSWs, clinicians, and operational leadership, and we operate an “all-hands-on-deck” model: patients are reviewed routinely by our core team to ensure strong symptom management, rapid coordination, and consistent family communication. Time Commitment & Work Model

Part-time: approximately 4–5 hours per week (generally predictable)

Remote role; physician may reside anywhere, with patients located across Southern California

After-hours coverage is handled by a dedicated triage line; rare physician-level after-hours exceptions may require timely availability

Key Responsibilities

Provide clinical oversight consistent with hospice Conditions of Participation and best practices in hospice & palliative medicine

Complete and sign CTIs accurately and within agreed turnaround time (within 4 days)

Be available for RN/NP clinical collaboration and timely patient discussions when needs arise

Attend bi-weekly IDG meetings (scheduled in advance around MD's schedule)

Participate in secure internal communication via HIPAA-compliant Slack for timely clinical questions and coordination

Support quality/compliance initiatives and contribute to survey readiness as needed (we are structured and documentation-forward)

Optional (Not Required)

Periodic local travel for face-to-face visits when clinically indicated

Comfort collaborating with hospitals, SNFs, and community clinicians to support smooth transitions and high-quality care coordination

Occasional clinical education/outreach on hospice and palliative care workflows (as mutually agreed)

Payer/Network Participation

We currently support patients across key payer channels and networks including

Department of Defense/TRICARE, VA, and Blue Shield . We are also expanding additional care coordination partnerships in 2026 (details available upon request). Technology & Workflow

We use HospiceMD, eFax, ePrescribing, HIPAA-compliant Slack, and Google Workspace (enterprise). We value organized documentation and efficient physician workflows. Compensation

Compensation is $4,000–$8,000 per month, commensurate with experience, time commitment, and final scope. We are open to structuring compensation as a monthly stipend, hourly, or a blended model for the right physician. Clinical Volume & Cadence

Estimated CTI volume and IDG cadence (including meeting schedule and expected physician participation) are available upon request. This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who is responsive, professional, personable, and interested in a long-term relationship with a growing hospice. Email hr@californiahh.com directly.
