Join our automotive customer engineering team in San Diego as system/sw performance engineer. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting numerous customer projects for enablement and launching by designing the system's performance goal, enabling and profiling applications, and resolving the performance issues for CPU, GPU, NPU, DDR etc. You will be a key engineer who will enable various workloads, including benchmarks, applications, defining the goals, optimizing the system performance in Qualcomm automotive chipset product. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet the performance expectations, ensuring the system is running at their best and are able to meet customer project performance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
OR Master\'s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Applications Engineering, Software Development experience, or related work experience.
2+ years of experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
1+ year of experience with debugging techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
MS degree in Computer Science or related field; 8+ years of practical experience
Strong debugging/Software development experience in systems and software issues preferably on Automotive/Mobile/IoT SoC (System on Chip)
Embedded system performance analysis and software optimization knowledge and experience
Good understanding of SoC architecture
Knowledge on Android/AGL/QNX kernel, especially CPU scheduling. DVFS for the core and bus
Knowledge on SoC (System on Chip) IP cores like CPU, GPU, DDR, DSP and assess the performance with benchmarks
Understanding Linux kernel and device drivers and understanding of ARM architecture
Embedded System architecture(s) with exposure to one or more OS (e.g., Android, Linux, QNX, etc.)
Strong software development skills, C and C++ programming, problem analysis, and debugging skills
W orks independently with minimal supervision
Good problem solving & analysis skills; communication skills and willingness to learn
Experience in system performance, software performance, BSP, or stability
Customer-facing experience in supporting project issue resolution, delivering training sessions, conducting presentations, and understanding the customer project life cycle
Principal Duties
Use various tools to profile the application (or workload) and examine the logs/traces to identify and address any performance issues
Work with customers to root-cause performance issues and lead deep-dive debugs of customer use-cases
Profile and analyze the boot KPI and benchmarks of CPU, GPU, DDR, etc.
Design system for proof of concept (demo) and implementation to prove feature and performance in QC automotive platform
Debug and isolate system, platform issues using software and hardware tools
Analyze use case execution data and performance metrics to optimize system behavior
Writing or enhancing debugging tools for easy debugging, profiling performance issues
Create performance documentation, presentation, train customers, and provide onsite support for customer project debugging
Develop a sample application to demonstrate optimal performance in CPU, DDR, and end-to-end (E2E) pipelines
Level of Responsibility
Works independently with minimal supervision
Provide supervision/guidance to other team members
Collaborating directly with customers to ensure their satisfaction
Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information; may require influence with customers
Tasks focus on problem solving with evolving scope; multi-tasking and prioritization required
Decision-making is significant in nature

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits: $145,000.00 - $217,600.00
The pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location posted. Salary is one component of total compensation at Qualcomm, which also includes a discretionary bonus program and potential RSU grants.
