Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Emergency Med Technician – Per Diem. In this role, the successful candidate will provide pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation to the sick and injured through the NYC 911 system, and demonstrate patient assessment, history, and care provided on the Ambulance Call Report.

Job Responsibilities

Reports to work on time and in uniform with appropriate personal equipment; swipes in and out in accordance with NYU policy.

Demonstrates an awareness of and respect for coworker/patient cultural background. Assesses patients’ ability to communicate in English and assists in the provision of an interpreter as needed.

Assesses patient condition and treats in accordance with NYS DOH and Regional Guidelines, transports patient to appropriate hospital, and transfers care to hospital staff, communicating patient condition and any treatment rendered.

Completes an electronic Pre‑Hospital Care Report (E‑PCR) including insurance information and assignment of claim signature in accordance with NYU policies for every patient contact. All reports, forms and logs are submitted complete, accurate, legible and neat prior to the end of shift.

Complies with uniform policy. Maintains a neat, clean, professional appearance and wears appropriate identification visible at all times.

Notifies RCC at the beginning of the shift and logs onto the CAD system in a timely fashion. Constantly monitors MDT and radio for assignments and promptly communicates changes in signal status. Maintains professional radio decorum and complies with local guidelines for radio protocol.

Is familiar with contents and complies with policies of the '911 System Provider Guide' which was supplied to employee.

Follows NYU, FDNY and NYS DOH guidelines for operations of emergency vehicles. Checks vehicle and equipment at the beginning of each shift, replenishes supplies where needed, completes a checklist noting any deficiencies, cleans and maintains vehicle and equipment, and restocks and refuels vehicle to maintain NYS DOH part 800 compliance.

Works as a team with partner and other providers on scene and at the hospital to provide highest quality care. Cooperates and maintains a professional relationship with others to facilitate the delivery of care to patients. Cooperates with supervision and others to achieve the goals of the Department.

Participates in Department hospital and regional Quality Improvement programs. Attends department meetings and training sessions.

Maintains ability and credentials to work in NYC 911 system.

Complies with scheduling procedures and availability submission.

Out of service time is minimized and documented on Unit Activity Log with appropriate notifications made.

Drives an ambulance safely in both emergency and non‑emergency mode throughout shift.

Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and completion of the New York State Department of Health approved EMT Program.

Six (6) months ambulance experience as Emergency Medical Technician; six (6) months 911 BLS experience preferred. Willingness to devote the time required completing assigned tasks on schedule.

License Registration Certification State EMT Card Required. Valid Driver License Required.

Weapons of Mass Destruction Certificate (WMD) and Haz‑Mat Awareness Certificate (CEVO) – OR – Standardized Awareness Certificate for EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course).

Salary & Benefits NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn provides a comprehensive benefits and wellness package. The salary range for this role is $29.44 per hour. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
