Role Overview
The Director of Materials Engineering will lead a cross-functional team with significant technical depth to execute complex, long-term research and development programs in the areas of materials science. This role will have direct leadership responsibility over a team that is conducting cutting-edge work that enables advanced manufacturing capabilities, specifically additive manufacturing. The Director of Materials Engineering leads a cross-functional team to execute advanced research and development programs in materials science, driving innovation to support additive manufacturing capabilities This role collaborates closely with manufacturing process engineering and other teams to align project goals and timelines, while overseeing project planning, budgeting, and milestone delivery This role directs metallurgical labs across sites to ensure operational excellence The Director provides technical guidance and subject matter expertise in materials science and post-processing techniques They communicate program status and risks to executive stakeholders They ensure adherence to project and change management best practices The position fosters a culture of flexibility, agility, and continuous improvement They identify and implement process enhancements to improve equipment performance and material quality You have…
10+ years' experience leading technical project teams 15+ years' experience executing technical projects Subject matter expertise in materials science, and related post-processes Experience managing complex projects on time and within budget while managing the expectations of multiple stakeholders Ability to develop and deliver program updates to executive stakeholders Strong understanding of project and changing management principles Experience working within a toll gate review process for development projects Ability to demonstrate flexibility and agility in a growing company Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a related field or equivalent, relevant experience The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
