Pave Talent is hiring on behalf of our client, an established mid-size specialty aluminum manufacturer in the Chicago area known for their innovative products, collaborative culture, and commitment to environmental stewardship. This 120-employee facility produces cutting-edge aluminum powders for aerospace, automotive coatings, and thermal management applications.

Your Impact:

As the Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you'll own all environmental compliance programs while supporting safety initiatives. This coordinator-level role is heavily focused on environmental regulations (70% environmental, 30% safety), offering the unique opportunity to rebuild comprehensive compliance systems while working directly with supportive executive leadership.

Key Environmental Responsibilities: Manage all EPA air quality permits, emissions reporting, and Illinois environmental compliance requirements Coordinate Tier II chemical inventory reporting through the Hazconnect system Oversee water quality compliance, solid/hazardous waste management, and environmental recordkeeping Lead environmental aspects of contractor management and facility projects Develop and maintain relationships with Illinois EPA and federal regulatory agencies Track regulatory changes and advise management on operational impacts Coordinate Management Environmental Committee meetings and initiatives Prepare and submit all environmental permits and reports on schedule

Additional Safety Support: Support NFPA 484 combustible metal dust safety programs Assist with OSHA compliance training and incident investigations Coordinate workers' compensation case management as needed

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, engineering, or related field 3+ years of hands-on environmental compliance experience in manufacturing Strong knowledge of EPA regulations, particularly air quality and chemical reporting Experience with Illinois environmental requirements and permitting Proficiency with environmental data management and reporting systems Excellent communication skills with ability to interface with regulatory agencies Detail-oriented professional who thrives on maintaining compliance

Preferred Qualifications: Chemical manufacturing or metals industry experience Environmental certifications (CHMM, CEA, or similar) Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems Bilingual English/Spanish capabilities
