Campus Security Specialist, Level 2 (Provisional – Fire Life Safety) Overview:

The College Public Safety team seeks an experienced security professional to serve as the Fire Life Safety Director, responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive fire safety plans, overseeing fire command operations, and coordinating with the Fire Department during emergencies.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and update a campus-wide Fire Safety Plan for all facilities.

Oversee and staff fire command stations; provide liaison to the Fire Department during operations.

Recruit, train, and supervise all fire safety personnel, including deputies, brigade members, and floor wardens.

Coordinate fire safety matters with OSHA Coordinator, Campus Facilities, and Building and Grounds.

Conduct, supervise, and evaluate fire drills; perform inspections as required by law.

Maintain all pertinent records and documentation.

Provide oversight to security staff training programs related to fire safety and emergency procedures.

Perform related duties as directed by the College Security Director.

Minimum Qualifications (Level I)

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years as a CUNY Campus Public Safety Sergeant, or

Seven (7) years full‑time experience in security, law enforcement, public safety, or a related field.

Possession of required special licenses, permits, or certificates as designated.

Substitutions:

An associate degree may substitute for two (2) years of required generic work experience.

A baccalaureate degree may substitute for four (4) years of required experience.

All applicants must include at least three (3) years of progressively responsible duties related to physical security or security training development.

Level II Additional Requirements

Additional two (2) years of experience in a fire safety management role and required certifications (e.g., F‑89 Certificate).

Alternatively, two (2) years of oversight experience in security training and development, and may need Peace Officer status or DCJS certification.

Compensation New hire: $73,732; incumbent: $83,317 (subject to a 13% salary suppression for the first 24 months).
