Position Summary We are seeking a Shipping and Receiving Manager to lead and develop our shipping and receiving department. Oversee the efficient flow of building materials and supplies to and from a construction site, ensuring accurate inventory tracking, timely deliveries, and compliance with safety regulations by managing a team responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials while collaborating with project managers and vendors to maintain project timelines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities Receiving and Inspection
Verify incoming deliveries against purchase orders, checking quantities, quality, and condition of materials upon arrival.
Identify and report any damaged or incorrect items to OCE’s Purchasing Agent, coordinating returns or replacements.
Conduct thorough inspections of materials to ensure compliance with project specifications.
Shipping and Delivery Coordination
Plan and schedule loads for delivery by utilizing in‑house software (Visual Planning) and communicating with Project Managers and Field Superintendents.
Prepare and package materials for delivery to construction sites according to project requirements.
Coordinate with delivery drivers and logistics providers to schedule timely deliveries.
Ensure proper documentation is completed for outgoing shipments including bills of lading and packing slips.
Team Management
Supervise a team of shipping and receiving personnel, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient workflow.
Train new employees on proper handling and storage procedures for construction materials.
Monitor performance and address any safety concerns.
Inventory Management
Maintain accurate inventory records using warehouse management systems, tracking stock levels and locations on site.
Implement proper storage practices to protect materials from damage, including labeling and organization systems.
Monitor stock levels and initiate reordering when necessary to avoid delays.
Logistics and Communication
Collaborate with project managers to understand material needs and delivery schedules.
Communicate with OCE’s Purchasing Agent regarding delivery timelines, price quotes, and order status.
Resolve any issues related to material shortages or delivery delays.
Compliance and Safety
Adhere to all safety regulations regarding material handling and storage on the construction site.
Conduct regular safety inspections and training sessions for the team.
Required Skills
Strong organizational and planning skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with various teams
Proficiency in inventory management systems and relevant software
Knowledge of construction materials and industry standards
Ability to manage a team effectively
Forklift operation skills may be required depending on the site
Education and Experience Requirements
5+ years of related Shipping and Receiving Management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a leadership position.
Strong knowledge of logistics and inventory software.
Understanding of compliance regulations and safety procedures.
May be required to work nights and weekends.
Certifications in supply chain or logistics management can be advantageous, such as a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified in Logistics Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) accreditation.
