The Cardiovascular and Thoracic Critical Care Unit (CTCCU) is located in the new, state‑of‑the‑art North Carolina Surgical Hospital and is part of the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care. This fast‑paced, Beacon Award for Excellence‑designated, 40‑bed unit specializes in the care of critically ill patients with cardiothoracic and vascular disease.

Common Surgical Procedures
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
Heart valve repairs and replacements
Heart transplants and lung transplants
Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implementation
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
Aortic and thoracic aneurysm repairs
Complex esophageal, thoracic, and vascular surgeries
CTCCU is currently accepting applications for full‑time rotating positions (7 am‑7 pm / 7 pm‑7 am). This position includes an excellent benefit package.

Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Education – Identifies and meets learning needs of self; attends education programs; assesses readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers.
Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes; seeks guidance as needed; participates in interdisciplinary evaluation; communicates relevant information.
Implementation – Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems; performs bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilizes organizational policies and procedures; prioritizes care; consults with resources.
Leadership – Develops professional growth goals; achieves objectives; participates in unit goal development; promotes cost‑effective care; gives feedback; maintains a safe environment.
Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations; synthesizes assessment data; anticipates discharge needs; builds relationships with families.
Planning – Collaborates with patient/family to update the plan of care; uses multidisciplinary resources; addresses cultural and ethnic issues; prioritizes tasks.
Research – Reads related journals; brings ideas to staff for assessment of applicability.
Education Requirements
Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Must obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within four years of employment (or a Master’s within seven years if hired after January 6 , 2014).
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
One (1) year of nursing experience.
