State Hospital South (SHS) - Patient Treatment Facility (PTF) is looking for a
Psychiatric Technician Trainee (PTT)
or a
Psychiatric Technician (PT)
who is caring and has a passion for helping others. SHS is located in Blackfoot, Southeast Idaho, and provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for adults with serious mental illnesses. This position requires a valid Idaho Certified Nurse’s Aide Certificate. Benefits

Provide a therapeutic environment. Facilitate ongoing treatment for persons with mental illness in an inpatient setting. Implement treatment plans and monitor outcomes of goals. Conduct therapeutic activities and co-facilitate group therapy sessions with patients requiring intense inpatient psychiatric care, including skills training, psychosocial rehabilitation, behavior management, symptom management, and anger management. Interacts with patients one-to-one and in group settings to encourage appropriate behavior and contribute to developing and changing patient treatment plans. Observes signs of mental and physical illness, patient response to treatment, personal hygiene, and interactions with others. Takes and records patients’ vital signs and follows nursing procedures for patient care. Fosters increased patient self-esteem through teaching and role-modeling; facilitates problem solving; records observations of individual and group behavior; charts treatment progress. Minimum Qualifications – Psychiatric Technician Trainee (PTT)
Some knowledge of personal hygiene and first aid; typically gained by at least two months of experience performing these functions or a willingness to learn. Experience following written and oral instructions; typically gained by at least six months of experience. Ability to read and write in English. Preferred Experience – Psychiatric Technician Trainee (PTT)
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Licensure. Minimum Qualifications – Psychiatric Technician (PT)
Some knowledge of human services (psychology, nursing, or social work); typically requires a completed college course in one of these areas or at least six months of experience in dual diagnosis, behavioral interventions, mental health disorders and medications, psychiatric symptoms, or therapeutic communication; or completion of a Psychiatric Technician training program through Southwest Idaho Treatment Center, State Hospital North, State Hospital West, or State Hospital South; or at least six months of work experience providing treatment services for the mentally ill. Experience with behavior management for individuals diagnosed with mental illness and developmental disabilities; typically gained by completion of at least six credits of upper-division college coursework in psychology or special education or at least six months of work experience completing behavioral assessments and/or mental health scales, analyzing behavior and its function, and developing or assisting in developing behavior support plans.
