Job Description The Referral Coordinator is responsible for processing, following up, and communicating with patients regarding referrals and/or procedure orders generated by providers. The position initiates authorization for patient services, maintains knowledge of insurance coverages, documents authorizations, and communicates status updates to practice staff.
Responsibilities
Timely processing of incoming and/or outgoing referrals and orders.
Document all phone calls, messages, and interactions with patients and insurance companies appropriately in the patient’s chart or applicable order systems.
Obtain prior authorizations for all appointments and procedures.
Update patient demographics in the practice management system.
Receive and route incoming telephone calls in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
Operate a variety of office equipment effectively.
Work closely with Baptist Medical Group Representatives, medical facilities, insurance companies, patients, and family members.
Qualifications Minimum Education
High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
Minimum Work Experience
1-3 years of experience in healthcare or medical office (preferred).
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Organizational skills, the ability to assign tasks, and achieve goals and objectives.
Ability to prioritize work.
Proficiency with computers and related software applications.
Ability to make recommendations and handle complaints and requests in a professional and calm manner.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
