Job Title Anatomy Lab Technologist

Department Medicine | BMEA-Division of Anatomy

Role Summary The Anatomy Lab Technologist manages all laboratories within the Division of Anatomy (gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, etc.) in the Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy within the College of Medicine. Responsibilities include restocking supplies, cleaning labs, serving as the primary point of contact for all courses and programs with a regular presence in the labs, coordinating lab setup with faculty and teaching staff, managing lab calendars and teaching session scheduling, and ensuring proper disposal of chemicals and biological hazards. The role works with the Anatomy Morgue Technician on lab turn-overs, preparation, and maintenance; assists in developing standard operating procedures; and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Anatomical Services and Body Donation Program.

Responsibilities

Restock supplies (e.g., gloves, wetting solutions, surgical gowns) and clean labs (empty trash, attend to spills, wipe countertops, straighten materials).

Serve as the primary point of contact for courses and programs with a regular presence in the labs.

Coordinate lab set-up with faculty, undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants, and programs outside the division.

Coordinate all lab calendars and the scheduling of teaching sessions.

Arrange and supervise the proper disposal of chemicals and biological hazards; coordinate deep cleaning with the housekeeping manager.

Direct and/or assist in cleaning technical equipment; schedule maintenance with providers.

Provide basic technical support for labs.

Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all anatomical material prosections; monitor condition, quality, and quantity of specimens; assist in preparation and storage of prosections.

Mix chemicals for wetting solutions and immersion tanks; maintain an up-to-date inventory of all lab supplies and teaching resources (e.g., manuals, specimens, tools).

Coordinate ordering and receiving supplies and equipment for all teaching labs.

Educate students on best health and safety practices and ethical handling of human material; uphold high standards of care for donors.

Collaborate with the Anatomy Morgue Technician for lab turn-overs, preparation, and maintenance.

Assist in developing standard operating procedures.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Anatomical Services and Body Donation Program.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Sciences or Biological Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Customer service experience preferred. Must be able to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, and communicate with students, faculty, and external program attendees. Position involves pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and walking. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
