Job Description
Answers routine questions from patients, and family.
Assesses patient via the telephone and acts accordingly.
Assists physician and team members to meet the patient’s needs.
Coordinates oncology and chemotherapy clinic visits, including assessment of pre‑visit documentation and lab work, interpretation and implementation of therapeutic orders, and arrangement of appropriate follow‑up appointments and referrals.
Delivers chemo/immunotherapy and blood products.
Handles, prepares, and properly disposes of drugs.
Identifies and pursues own learning needs; attends in‑services and participates in continuing education activities and/or oncology–chemotherapy related professional associations or programs.
Involved in the chemotherapy drug admixture.
Makes follow‑up patient appointments or follows up on patient appointments.
Obtains patient histories and laboratory results; takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, mental status, etc.
Orders chemotherapy-administering drugs and supplies; accounts for medical supply stock.
Provides clinical leadership and direction to the cancer care experience in complex and unpredictable situations.
Provides educational information to patients, family, etc., pertaining to the administration of chemotherapy. Answers inquiries and provides advice as needed.
Responsible for patient assessment for drug toxicities on a daily basis.
Schedules radiological studies.
Monitors patient’s progress through chemotherapy treatment.
Creates a supportive environment for chemotherapy patients.
Qualification Requirements
Ability to assess patient via telephone and act accordingly.
Ability to perform multi‑tasks.
Ability to work with the physician and other team members to deliver safe and effective care to patients.
Excellent phlebotomy and communication skills. Ability to work in a stressful environment.
Experience with chemotherapy drug admixture.
Oncology experience preferred or one year RN experience with direct patient care.
Skilled in computer use and EMR procedures.
Skilled in obtaining venipuncture for the delivery of chemotherapy drugs.
Skilled in proper documentation needed for patient’s medical records.
Skilled in sterile technique for procedures.
Education
Associate degree in nursing, BLS certification, Chemotherapy Certification.
OCN if eligible.
Confidential And Sensitive Information
Must properly control the release of proprietary and confidential information.
All employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Language Skills
Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.
